TRANSITIONS TO ADULTHOOD
Music can provide a consistent and comforting presence during a young adult’s transition into further education, community involvement, employment or independent living. For those individuals living with a developmental, learning and/or physical disability; chronic illness or mental health issues, music can promote feelings of safety and stability and lead to improved quality of life.
For young adults, group or individual music therapy can provide:
  • Opportunities for socialisation with others in a similar situation
  • Reducing feelings of isolation and vulnerability
  • The opportunity to express emotions in a safe, consistent and non-verbal environment whatever the changing circumstances
  • Opportunities to address specific emotional or well-being issues during periods of transition to new settings
  • Providing a place to process experiences and emotions regarding changing situations
For some clients the music therapist can provide consistency through delivering ongoing music therapy sessions at existing school / college / residential facilities, with sessions continuing at new living or learning venues.
